Mathematics

We believe everyone can succeed in mathematics and that understanding mathematics is the key to confidence.

To achieve this children take part in their daily mathematics lesson in small focused groups.

We use the White Rose Maths Scheme and Numicon and encourage children to use concrete apparatus to build a real understanding of number and how it works.

Children are encouraged to discuss their methods and apply their skills in other areas of the curriculum. Due to our small groups we can ensure every child has a good understanding of all concepts and can challenge them to develop their skills with individual tasks within the lesson.

The progression of maths learning in each strand is shown in the document below. White Rose is carefully structured to ensure coverage of National Curriculum objectives in each year group. An example of how units are organised throughout the year is provided for each year group but these are delivered flexibly and the order or length may be changed.
